They're just as effective as their branded counterparts. Be careful, though. There are items from both sides of the fence that simply don't work.
Alternatively, you could go for the heavy equipment, which I really advise against. These ones are really expensive, and misusing them may end up destroying your tiles altogether. If you believe that your grout is in need of a heavy-duty machine to clean it, then I suggest going for a professional grout-cleaner instead. They know how to handle the machinery best.
