Herbalife is run under a MLM structure. There is an upfront distributor cost and they you are compensated off of the people that you place underneath you and how much product they buy.
Here is where things get a little off. The majority of Herbalife's overall wealth comes from about 1% of the distributors. That being said, the other percentage is left to fight for the scraps.
The majority of distributors, as in any MLM structure will drop out within 90 days as they will not be able to turn a profit on the small margins on each product.
Now the products that Herbalife represents are high quality, but they are typically about 30% more expensive than a similar product at the local GNC.
